The Mongolian government is creating a program to allow Mongolians to grow 100 percent of all vegetables consumed in the country.

Called the ‘Green Revolution,” the program was approved in 1999 and now involves 121,000 households and some 25,000 to 30,000 jobs.

During that time, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has sought to teach farming techniques, supply higher quality vegetable seeds, build greenhouses and even supply farming equipment, including tractors.

Future plans call for bringing more impoverished households into the program. Also techniques will be taught to rid farming areas of harmful insects and to introduce nature-friendly technologies into vegetable farming.
