ImageThe Mongolian Parliament has vetoed the construction of a hydroelectric plant.

Meeting in committee, parliament members turned down a proposal for building the Eg Hydro Power Plant with Chinese assistance.  Among the problems cited were the excessive costs, low river levels, as well as concerns for the environment.

At the same time, there was support for diverting the $300 million loan for the power plant to projects including building 40,000 apartments and improving Mongolian rail service.
