Report shows rising road fatalities in Mongolia PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 April 2008
ImageA Mongolian Parliamentary committee has reported on rising auto accident rates in Mongolia.

Meeting in session, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on law noted that fatal auto accidents continue to rise each year in Mongolia.

Figures released by the committee showed 3,676 people had died on Mongolian roads during the past ten years.

More disturbing to lawmakers is that in the last four years, 1,453 deaths were reported on Mongolian roads. During this same period, 5,242 people were injured.

Some lawmakers have described the accident rate as having reached a disaster level.

Committee members suggested reconstructing road junctions in order to reduce traffic jams, constructing parking lots, encouraging the use of public buses and reducing the use of sometimes dangerous mini-buses.
