Record numbers of Mongolians studying Korean language PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 25 April 2008
ImageRecently released figures indicate large numbers of Mongolians are learning to speak Korean.

For the first time, according to Korea Institute of Curriculum & Evaluation, over 1,000 Mongolians have taken the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK).

Those Mongolians simply seeking a working ability to communicate in Korean take the Korean Language Proficiency Test (KLPT) prior to employment in South Korea. In 2007, as many as 15,000 Mongolians took the KLPT.

Currently some 33,000 Mongolians, or 1.2 percent of the entire Mongolian population of 2.7 million, are living and working in South Korea.

Among the reasons for it becoming increasingly attractive for Mongolians to work in South Korea is that, within three years of working, Mongolians may return with enough money to buy a home in Mongolia.
