Mongolian President N.Enkhbayar awarded state awards to citizens in a ceremony in Ulaanbaatar last week. Composer P.Khayankhyarvaa was awarded the title of People's Artist for what the President called his contribution to the development of the musical art of Mongolia. B.Purevdash, the Director of Mongolian Public Radio, was honored as a State Honored Cultural Figure. Finally, Chinbat Ochir, Chief-Editor of the "News of Mongolia", received Mongolia’s North Star award. “News of Mongolia” is published in Russian by the state-owned MONTSAME News Agency. It was founded in 1942.

This includes issues within Mongolia, and relevant international information and experiences. The need for information pertinent to the environment, ecology, and resource use, available to a broad audience with diverse interests and needs, was identified during the initial year of The Asia Foundation’s Securing Our Future program.
