Two day conference deals with work accidents, seeking improved safety PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 May 2008
ImageMongolia is participating in a two day conference in Vietnam to seek ways to reduce work-related accidents and deaths.

The meeting in Hanoi is being attended by nine ASEAN member countries as well as China, South Korea, and Japan.

Particular focus at the meeting will be on worker safety in high-risk industries including mining, construction and electricity installations.

This was Mongolia’s first year to attend the safety conference.  Mongolian Social Welfare and Labor Ministry Research and Evaluation Department deputy director, Amartugs Tsenddavaa, said that some 180 people died in an average of 380 work-place accidents in Mongolia each year.

"Mongolia saw the workshop as the chance to prepare for a national program," she said.
