For the tenth year, Mongolia
will host a 100 km run which lasts from sunrise to sundown.
The Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset
ultra marathon will take place on July 9.
Runners will again find themselves
competing in Mongolia's most beautiful national parks, traversing mountains
passes and carefully making their way over ancient trails used by nomadic
horsemen.
The marathon was started in
1999 by Shanghai resident and Swiss engineer, Nic Musy. Musy, now 40,
will again compete in this year’s race, just as he has done every
year since 1999.
Musy expects to see 70 runners
coming to Mongolia from Europe, America, Asia and the Pacific.
"Preparing for mountain
running in Shanghai has been difficult and when you are running three
to four hours on a treadmill on a Saturday morning, you sometimes think
this is terrible," Musy told the Shanghai Daily.
All funds raised from the marathon
will be donated for the maintenance of Hovsgol National Park. Also,
Mongolian volunteers, some on horseback, provide safety and support
for runners.
