Food leads way as consumer prices climb in Mongolia |

Increased food prices led the
way as Mongolia’s consumer price index rose 3.8 percent in May.
Figures released by the government
show food prices roses by 7.6 percent in May, consistent with the worldwide
rise in food prices.
Other categories that make
up the consumer price index showed steady increases, also.
Compared with prices in December
2007, health care has risen 19.7 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco
is up by 8.1 percent, restaurants and hotels by 15.7 percent, and clothing,
footwear and cloth has risen 5.2 percent.
At the same time, the cost
of education showed no change, while costs within the communications
industry fell 0.4 percent.
