Mongolia sees 70 percent jump in vehicles since 2000 |

Mongolia has seen a nearly
70 percent increase in motor vehicles driven on its roads since 2000.
Officials have released figures
showing total vehicles in Mongolia now stands at 202,000.
The same officials have acknowledged
problems with congestion on roads and serious road accidents causing
injuries to passengers and pedestrians, as well as a worrying increase
in the number of traffic-related laws being broken.
The most recent statistics,
from 2007, indicate 344 persons killed that year in road accidents while
932 persons were injured. Also, 1,096 traffic citations were issued
by police.
Particular concern was voiced
about accidents, which often were quite serious, occurring on rural
roads connecting cities.
