Top experts from Mongolia and
the United States met last week to discuss improving methods of animal
husbandry among rural flocks.
Meeting at the Kempinski Khaan
Palace in Ulaanbaatar, experts reviewed changes in grazing pastures
in Mongolia and how to anticipate problems these may cause Mongolian
herders. Problems ranged from those that are man-made to the effects
of a changing climate.
Additionally, it was announced
at the meeting that a joint research program to develop scientific and
practical information on the ecosystem management of Mongolian pastures
would be undertaken.
Participating in the meeting
were representatives of the Union of Mongolian Pasture Management, Mongolian
Academy of Sciences and Scientific Institute of Animal Husbandry, Colorado
University in the U.S., the World Bank and other interested organizations.
