The government has taken steps
to reduce bread prices in Mongolia through September.
It was announced Friday that
two large bread companies would reduce the price of bread by 80 MNT,
charging 580 MNT ($0.50 USD) for a loaf of bread. This decision will
only apply to bread, and not other food staples.
The decision was made as 5,000
tons of flour from Russia was distributed to major bread manufacturers.
As part of the agreement, the bread companies have agreed not to increase
prices sooner than September 20.
An additional 100,000 tons
of flour has been scheduled to be delivered by Russia to Mongolia.
Increased production and transportation
costs have resulted in a 35 percent increase in flour, rice and other
grains in many parts of the world.
