Tuesday, 24 June 2008

A hydroelectric power plant built n the western Mongolia began operating on Monday.

Located on the Chonokharaikh River in Dorgon soum of Khovd aimag, the power plant will produce electricity for those living within western Mongolia.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mongolian President N.Enkhbayar said, ''Our ancestors used to compare water with chintamini (the wishing jewel). When I was Prime Minister, I attended a foundation stone laying ceremony for this station and participated in finding a solution for the station’s expenses. Thanks to the station's operation, the western region will create a sustainable development step, the movement of rural citizens to settlement areas will be reduced, and the number of domestic and foreign tourists will increase due to this construction."

Other officials noted that future power plant construction will be aided by what was learned while building the Chonokharaikh River power plant.
