This year’s joint military
exercise with Mongolia, the U.S. and other armies will be delayed due
to the Beijing-2008 Olympic Games.
Meeting Monday at the Headquarters
of the Armed Forces of Mongolia, officials of the Mongolian armed forces
and the U.S. Asia-Pacific Command discussed alternate dates and locations
of the exercises.
Though the exercises have always
been staged in August, this year they will not begin until September
5.
Heightened regional security
is a concern as China has forbid the flying of military helicopters
over its territory during the games.
The armed forces of Nepal,
India, Thailand and the USA will participate in the military exercises.
Also, China and France have accepted invitations to send observers.
