Mongolia announces official election results MPRP with 39 seats, Democrats win 25, ten in recount

The official results of the
June 29 election were announced Monday with the Mongolian People's Revolutionary
Party (MPRP) winning a clear majority with 39 of the 76 seats in the
Great Hural, the country’s parliament.
The Democratic Party won 25
seats, two seats went to smaller parties and ten remain disputed and
are involved in recounts. The Civil Will Party's S. Oyun has remained her seat in Parliament and the media personality Altai successfully ran as an independent candidate.
In the immediate aftermath
of the vote, riots took place in Ulaanbaatar as claims of vote fraud
were raised. Five people died during the unrest and a state of emergency
was declared prior to order returning to Mongolia’s capital city.
"We have introduced 66
seats to the president and we have told him there are three constituencies
in dispute for which we have no final result," Mongolia election
commission chief Batgulga told Mongolia Web News. The three constituencies are Khentii, Dornod and the Ulaanbaatar Bayangol district.
As officials sort out the winners
in the remaining ten seats, Mongolian law allows the parliament to meet
with three-quarters of the seats filled.
