Mongol Rally kicks off all over Europe PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 July 2008
ImageThe Mongol Rally 2008 teams thunder forth from London, Madrid and Milan on Saturday July 19th.

If you're in one of the launch cities come on down and wave off the brave souls taking on the beast of a journey.

Here are the details about the London launch in Hyde Park, and details about the Madrid and Milan launches will be posted soon.

First a few words from Mr Tom who was one of the orginal Mongol Ralliers and founder of the The Adventurists about the launch day:

“Mothers will cry, Ambassadors will speak and our brave teams will line up for the public to laugh at. The launch is always an entertaining day and now we have the new Africa Rally on the Friday too, which is possibly slightly more ridiculous than the Mongol Rally.

“What better way to spend an afternoon than ogling hundreds of fools wobbling out together desperately savouring the smooth tarmac before it runs out and dumps them right in the thick of an adventure to bore their grandchildren with.”

What

Possibly the largest departure of adventure teams from the UK ever staged – they have no route, no back up and tiny 1-litre cars.

When

Start: 11am
Departure: 12:30

Where

North Carriage Drive, Hyde Park
Team line up between Victoria Gate and Cumberland Gate (teams will leave the park via Cumberland Gate).
Map of Hyde Park

Why

200 tiny 1-litre cars, driven by teams from 23 countries in fancy dress, about to set off on journeys of up to 10,000 miles through 15 countries in cars they swapped for a bag of crisps. Including an Ambulance and a 1966 red double-decker bus.

Saving the World

All the teams have to raise at least £1000 for the Official Adventure Charities and the total is expected to be £300,000!
