Following negotiations on issues of pay, a labor strike has been called off at the Russian owned gold-mining Altan Dornod (Zolotoy Vostok) Mongol Company.

Miners at Altan Dornod accused the company of maintaining artificially low wages and, further, said miners did not receive overtime or weekend supplements for Sunday work.

A petition from miners was originally delivered to local mine officials. When officials refused to negotiate, miners did not appear at the mines to work the following day.

When the company brought in unskilled laborers into the mine, a mechanical error resulted in two workers being seriously hurt.

Now, mining officials have said they are willing to meet miners’ demands and are seeking a return to the negotiating table.
