British, Mongolian marathoners meet while running, announce marriage plans PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 August 2008

A British marathon runner will marry a Mongolian woman he met while running in Hovsgol national park.

Jamie Roberts, 43, regularly competes in marathons. This summer he ran in the Mongolian Sunrise to Sunset race in a time of 12 hours and 28 minutes.

Roberts met his Mongolian fiancée, Suvdmaa Ichinkhorloo, four years ago, and ran much of this year’s race hand in hand with her.

She has won the women’s Sunrise to Sunset race nine times in a row.

As neither of the soon-to-be married couple speaks the other’s language, Roberts said he is learning Mongolian.

“I have been trying to learn Mongolian for some time now but have only really made good progress this year,” he told a British newspaper.

The Sunrise to Sunset race takes runners through extreme weather conditions and rocky terrain over a route going through three mountain passes in the Hovsgol national park.

That's very happy. Hm, 43 years old- I guess better late than never to find true love! I hope at least one of them will successfully learn other language!
