Immunization campaign to prevent meningitis targets children PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 October 2008

A ten-day immunization campaign in Mongolia runs through October 10 as officials seek to combat the spread of spinal meningitis.

The immunization campaign will target all children aged 2-10 living in Ovorkhangai, Khovsgol, Dornogobi, Khentii, Uvs, Sukhhbaatar, Dornod, Bulgan, Darkhan-Uul, Orkhon provinces and in Ulaanbaatar.

Since 1950, an outbreak of meningitis has occurred three times with intervals of 15 to 20 years. As the last outbreak occurred in 1994, authorities fear another meningitis epidemic could be seen relatively soon.
