Mongolia-Russia hold first military exercise since Soviet days PDF Print E-mail

Mongolia and Russia have begun their fist joint military training operation since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Explaining the purpose of the training, Mongolian Prime Minister S.Bayar said, during opening ceremonies, that the two armies will conduct maintenance on military equipment and Mongolia will enhance their peacekeeping capabilities with Russia's help, said Bayar. 
"The bilateral relationship of military cooperation has maintained good momentum, and I believe this exercise will bring the cooperation to a new stage," he added.  
The exercise is being held in the central Mongolian province of Tov. 
During the 30-day exercise, some 250 Mongolian soldiers and 450 Russian troops will coordinate their activities. Russia has offered over $2.6 million to maintain Mongolia's military equipment
