MEC to mine 3 million tons of coal per year at Khushuut site PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 02 December 2008
To supply China, Hong Kong-based Mongolia Energy Corporation, a coal and energy resources developer in Mongolia, will produce 3 million tons of Mongolian coking coal a year beginning in mid-2009. This coal will be sold to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region of China.

Mongolia Energy Corporation currently has 330,000 hectares of concession areas in western Mongolia for coal, ferrous and non-ferrous metal resources. Among them, the company has 149 million tons of coal reserves, including substantial coking coal deposits, within its 600 hectares of concession areas at Khushuut in Khovd province of Mongolia.

James Schaeffer, a chief executive officer of MEC, has said the company plans to increase coking coal production to 8 million tons per year by 2012, which will make it the largest coking coal mine in Mongolia.
