Even as relations between Mongolia
and Poland continue warming up, the news from Ulaanbaatar is that the
visiting Polish president’s plane froze Tuesday on a Mongolian runway
preventing his departure.
President Lech Kaczynski arrived
in Mongolia on Sunday as the first stop in an Asian tour. He met with
top Mongolian officials, signed declarations for improving bilateral
relations, and received an honorary doctorate degree from the National
University of Mongolia.
However, with temperatures
of –10C, Kaczynski’s Polish government airplane was determined to
be inoperative, temporarily delaying the presidential trip.
Kaczynski’s party, including
his wife, were transferred to a Mongolian aircraft to continue on to
Japan.
After being thawed out, the
Polish government aircraft will catch up with the country’s president
in Japan.
