Japan to provide $22 million aid package PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 January 2009
ImageJapan has pledged to provide nearly $22 million in development aid to Mongolia.

Officials said the aid would be used to improve Mongolia’s economic structure and guarantee stable development.

The assistance agreement was signed by Yasuyoshi Ichihashi, the Japanese ambassador to Mongolia, and S.Batbold, the Mongolian minister of external relations.

Specifics indicate some $13 million will be used to purchase oil, Ichihashi said.

The remaining money will be invested in five programs, including bridge construction and school maintenance, according to Ichihashi.

Japan has provided Mongolia with about 200 million dollars in aid since 1991.

It is very good for Mongolia that Japan strengthen its relationship with Mongolia in this way. Of course it is good as well for the world economy when developed countries support the less developed countries to progress to a higher level of development. More countries should take an example on this. Specially Mongolia's direct neighbor which, confirmed by the remarks of Mr. Putin in Davos, prefer to be soloist and on its own, and therefore doesn't behave like a good neighbor but more as shrewd merchant, hungry for a good bargain of Mongolia's assets.
