Olympics trains will cross Mongolia PDF Print E-mail

It is expected that a big increase in the flow of foreign tourists from Europe to China will boost the load of the Mongolian railway during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. With this regard, the Mongolian Railway plans to arrange additional trains in direction Moscow-Ulaanbaatar-Beijing. They are discussing on leasing and buying passenger trains from the Chinese counterpart.

Additionally the Mongolian Railway announced it will in cooperation with tourism organizations prepare to arrange a tourist s train "Nature-Gobi". Starting from this summer, the train will travel in direction Irkuts--Ulaanbaatar--Zamiin-Uud. Its internal enhancement will be done together with Germany, said 1st Vice-Director of the Ulaanbaatar Railway L.Purevbaatar.

Akira KAMIMURA, lecturer, faculty of Mongolian studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies launched an innovative website on old Mongolian manuscripts maps in cooperation with the state archive of Mongolia. It contains 16 precious maps which are stored at the state archive for academic use. The oldest map was estimated being made in 1803-1805.
