Monday, 20 March 2006
Mongolia's first ever kidney transplant was successfully performed at the 3rd Hospital in Ulan Bator several days ago, Mongolian news media reported Sunday.

The operation lasted 10 hours. According to the doctors concerned, the patient's body is getting better and her kidney is fine. The patient, D.Oyuntsetseg, received the operation free of charge after citizens of Mongolia raised the necessary funding.

The surgery was the first of its kind to have taken place in Mongolia. The patient's twin sister was the donor in the operation. Mongolia's state honored doctor L. Jambaljav conducted the operation with the assistance of an experienced doctor from China.
