The Steppe Forward Programme is seeking applicants for a Project
Assistant. The Steppe Forward Programme started as a Darwin Initiative
(UK DEFRA) funded project run by the Zoological Society of London in
collaboration with the National University Mongolia.
We work in
capacity building in the ecological field, to enable Mongolians to
have the skills and techniques to carry out research. We do this by
running field courses for undergraduates and support of the Ecology
and Erdem club at the university. We also run training courses and
workshops for environmental professionals and produce books and a
peer-reviewed scientific journal. In addition we run a community
project in the south Gobi and aim to expand our projects.
The Project Assistant would be expected to assist with all Steppe
Forward Programme activities. Training in project management will be
given and the post holder will receive experience in a variety of
skills, such as logistics, ecological techniques and work with
community groups and students. This post will include a variety of
work from purchasing and general office work to organising and helping
run the summer field courses and other training courses. Translation
of books and help with the journal will also be expected, as well as
translation of other documents and for foreign staff as necessary. The
Steppe Forward Programme relies on collaborations with the university
and other NGOs, so ability to form and maintain these is important.
Required skills:
- Bachelors degree in a natural science field
- Good English
- Good logistical skills
- Experience with Word, Excel and other MS Office programs
Desired skills:
- Further degree
- Experience with biological/ecological field work
- Experience running courses
