Mongolian President M. N.Enkhbayar became au fait Tuesday with activities of the Town Planning, Scientific and Specification Institute under the Ulaanbaatar City Mayor Office and the Tinergy compressed fuel company. The above Institute officials informed the President on a plan on a new city center foundation, the erection of apartments in the Gandan and Yarmag ger areas, and the construction of the seventh sub-district. The new center to be settled by 50 thousand people will locate 24 kilometers far from UB. The seventh sub-district is planned to be erected on the boundary of the Nogoon Nuur lake and Zuun Selbe area. Three alternatives have already been worked out to remove away underground waters which are likely to cause an obstacle in constructing the buildings. As of the Yarmag ger area, the state special protection zone is required to be changed. One of the most urgent problems in Ulaanbaatar is an accumulated rubbish. The restoration of the construction activities lead to the increase of the waste. About 400 million togrogs are needed to remove the waste of construction materials being accumulated since 1998 in more than ten rubbish dumps in UB. The city officials reported on the above issues to the President and showed him a new rubbish dump in the 20th khoroo (smallest urban administrative unit) of Bayangol District. Mr. Enkhbayar also got familiarized with the implementation of the project on the waste master-plan development in the Ulaanchuluut rubbish dump. Before, there was 18 meters thick rubbish covering 18 hectares of land. At present, the rubbish on eight hectares has been covered by soil thanks to the project, carried out with the JICA s financial support. Under the project s second stage, a centralized rubbish utility spot will be created with 9.1 million USD investment.
