Mongolia Develops Yak Polo PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 21 April 2006
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/. Within the scope of the 800th anniversary celebration of the Great Mongol Empire, the administration of Ovorkhangai Aimag will organize a yak polo for foreign guests and tourists. This high yielding animal considered as one of the rarest animals in the world is bred in nine aimags of Mongolia. At present, the number of yaks, which were about one million, is less than 450 thousand. A demo yak polo has successfully been conducted in the Aimag with the purpose of increasing the number as well as productivities of the yaks. Some foreign countries show great interest in yaks, which live in mountainious region at least 1,800 meters above sea level. North Korea and Bulgaria have purchased some yaks from Mongolia to conduct surveys.
