Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ The Grand sumo Tournament of March 2006 was
full of sensations by the Mongolian wrestlers. A special board of
directors meeting on March 29, 2006 officially announced that Sekiwake
Hakuho Sho was promoted to the rank of Ozeki. Successful sumo career
promotion of Hakuho is the point of public attention not only in
Mongolia but also in Japan and other countries in the world. Born on
March 11 in UB, Munkhbat Davaajargal (ring name is Hakuho Sho) has
become the sixth foreign wrestler to reach the rank of Ozeki. Like many
of his countrymen in sumo, Hakuho comes from a family background of the
Mongolian wrestling. At the age of 15, he started sumo career in Japan
and rose to the makuuchi in May 2004. Since then, he constantly was
among the top contestants. In March 2006, he lost to Yokozuna Asashoryu
(countryman) in a play-off. His promotion to Ozeki after that
tournament came just a few weeks after his twenty-first birthday,
making him the fourth youngest man to reach Ozeki in the modern history
of sumo. The new Ozeki, Hakuho said, "I want to give my all in the May
Tournament so I hope all of you will be cheering me on". During his
sumo career in the makuuchi, he received three Outstanding Performance
Awards, one Fighting Spirit Prize, two Technique Prizes and one
Kimboshi (gold star) that is awarded to a lower-ranked wrestler who
manages to upset a Yokozuna.Wrestlers from Mongolia have been
dominating on the Japanese professional sumo-wrestling arena. Today, a
total of seven Mongolian wrestlers, including Asashoryu Davgadorj,
Hakuho Davaajargal, Kyokutenho Tsevegnyam, Ama Byambadorj, Asasekiryu
Dashnyam, Tokitenhu Khuchitbaatar and Kyokushuzan Batbayar are
successfully competing in the Makuuchi of Grand Sumo Tournament. One of
rising Mongolian wrestler Ama Bayambadorj, who became a new Komusubi
after his successful fighting in March Tournament, said, "I have become
a new Komusubi. This tournament I would like to once again do the kind
of good sumo you will enjoy much, so I do hope you will be rooting for
me". His overwhelming heroic wrestling tactics and technique impress
the Japanese people. Mongolian sumo fans are excitingly waiting to
watch the 2006 May Grand Sumo Tournament, which will start on Sunday
May 7th through May 21st, 2006 in Ryogoku Kokugikan Stadium, Tokyo.
Mongolians are awaiting Hakuho Davaajargal to be the second Mongolian
sumo wrestler to reach the rank of Yokozuna.
