Mongolia Web News, Ulaanbaatar. On May 8, Protesters gers (mongolia's traditional dwellings), that were erected on the Sukhbaatar Square, were destroyed by policemen at dawn, around 5-6 a.m . There were a total of six gers: In three gers some members of civil movements conducting a political sit, and in other three gers SAPU center victims had rseumed their hunger strike. A demand from the city governor was delivered for moving gers, but protesters didn’t deny. Yesterday, civil movements made a press release and informed that: “Around 04:40 am, almost 2000 policemen came to Main Square and started to destroy gers. After the attack finished, policemen cleaned the square. Then policemen explained that the main reason is the visit of Korean president.”
N.Purevsuren, vice-head of “Dayar Mongol” civil movement said that “We made political struggles in latest 16 years. But this event seems like political victimization in 1937. The hunger strikers were forcibly brought to the health department in Sukhbaatar district and four members of the Mongolian Green Party were arrested because they protested against the destruction.”
