Yesterday Minister of Health L. Gundalai confirmed that Mongolia now has 21 official HIV positive cases. In a press conference, Minister Gundalai described the situation of the young man,
The young man is 20-25 years old and came to Ulaanbaatar
from the countryside to study at a university. Three weeks ago he gave
an HIV/AIDS test that came back negative, however within the last three
weeks he slept with a prostitute without using a condom. After this he
felt that he should give another test, and yesterday it came back
positive. He reported sleeping with seven women since giving the
previous test, and he reported that most of them were students. Two of
these students have now given tests.
We have also started working with the city police to start testing
more sex industry workers because so many people are contracting HIV
from them.
