HIV AIDS in Mongolia: Case #21 Confirmed PDF Print E-mail

Yesterday Minister of Health L. Gundalai confirmed that Mongolia now has 21 official HIV positive cases. In a press conference, Minister Gundalai described the situation of the young man,

The young man is 20-25 years old and came to Ulaanbaatar from the countryside to study at a university. Three weeks ago he gave an HIV/AIDS test that came back negative, however within the last three weeks he slept with a prostitute without using a condom. After this he felt that he should give another test, and yesterday it came back positive. He reported sleeping with seven women since giving the previous test, and he reported that most of them were students. Two of these students have now given tests.

We have also started working with the city police to start testing more sex industry workers because so many people are contracting HIV from them.
