Democratic Party Boycotts Mongolia's Parliament, By-Election Delayed PDF Print E-mail

Today the Democratic Party walked out of the Parliamentary discussions on the by-election in district 46. The General Election Committee released a report that stated that the re-election should be scheduled for July 2, 2006, as this was within the period of time stipulated in Mongolian election laws. However the MPRP has attempted to block a by-election held this quickly, and has thus breached Mongolian election laws.

The Democratic Party regards it as an offence and shameful act from the MPRP side to violate the Constitutional rights of the voters from election district 46 in Huvsgul aimag and states its strong opposition MPRP efforts.

Today during the discussions, the DP MPs gave a statement and left the session. According to Mongolia’s constitution, if MPs leave parliament in protest while there is discussion of constitutional law, their votes will be counted as, “against.”
