dust storms have become a major issue in the past 20 years, as
evidenced by a decline in air quality in eastern China, Korea, and
Japan. The Mongolian Gobi desert has long been considered a source of
dust for these storms. In her lecture, Jayne Belnap will speak about
her team's research into the origins of these sand storms. She will
also discuss the problem that the growing population of herders and
livestock is having on grazing areas in Mongolia and will offer
possible solutions for how Mongolia's land resources could be used
effectively. The
American Center for Mongolian Studies is a non-profit organization
