Third cell phone operator in Mongolia PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 23 June 2006
Mongolia Web News, Ulaanbaatar. Yesterday the third mobile phone operator UNITEL Company held a press conference announcing their new service will start on 26 June. They will offer  post-pay service phone number starting with 8811 with a per minute cost of 50 tugrug (0.4 cent) and a prepay service with a per minute charge of 75 tugrug (0.6 cent) and numbers starting with 8881. If you have GSM system phone you just need to insert the Unitel Company SIM card to start using the new network.
Unitel is the third operator in Mongolia after Mobicom and Skytel.

Finally someone has done something about the almost quasi-monopoly that Mobicom had on the Mongolian citizens. Mobicom and Skytel (to a slight degree) was bleeding the Mongolians dry with their overcharging and the incredibly stupid obsession with cell phone numbers. Who the hell cares about having 9911 in front of their cell phone number? It's totally idiotic and should stop. Telephone service should be easy and cheap for the Mongolian people and I guess Unitel is an ackward, little step towards that goal.

I assume that this third cell phone operator is a big step toward the great nations of Mongolia. Once it was the superpower led by Genghis Khan that conquered the whole world. At that moment,
Genkhis khan said triumphantly, "No lands lay beyond this point."
As i proud citizen of Mongolia, I always believe that great time will come back
someday. Unicom is a piece of it.
