US Embassy warns for shortage of lodging and transport in Mongolia
Friday, 23 June 2006
The US embassy posted a announcement regarding problems with lodging and transport in this summer season in Mongolia:
The Government of Mongolia significantly increased summer tourism to
Mongolia for 2006 through targeted advertising and there has been
little indication that service capacity has expanded to match potential
increased demand. In addition to lodging scarcity (see our original
message of February 9, 2006 at http://mongolia.usembassy.gov/tw_02092006.html
) flights into and out of Mongolia are heavily booked. The week of
July 9-15 is particularly challenging with flight wait lists of up to
90 passengers with limited hotel/lodging availability in June and even
fewer options for July. The room shortage continues through August and
September, peak tourist months in Mongolia. We advise those
contemplating travel to Mongolia to consider the lack of available
lodging and air transportation services before establishing firm plans
to travel and to reconfirm such services, especially departure flights,
prior to arrival and again upon arrival.
