04 Sep 2006 | President Nambaryn Enkhbayar of Mongolia has asked Development Minister Agnes van Ardenne to support the country’s water management and anti-corruption activities. The president hopes that the Netherlands can offer its expertise and experience to help Mongolia set up a sustainable water management system.
Mongolia is 45 times the size of the Netherlands and has one of the earth’s last expanses of unspoilt nature. The country is suffering from the effects of a rapid process of desertification. President Enkhbayar also requested Dutch assistance in fighting corruption in Mongolia. In this young democracy, political parties, civil servants and national aid organisations all have conflicting interests. The minister spoke to President Enkhbayar during her three-day visit to Mongolia.
