Democratic Party Executive Board to Discuss Mongolian Government Resignation Letter PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 October 2006
MonInfo reports: The executive board of the Democratic Party (DP) has finished a letter asking for the resignation of the current government, which has been signed by 25 members of parliament and is now ready to be submitted, according to a DP official.

“The executive board normally holds a weekly meeting on Monday. But since the Chairman of our party (Ts. Elbegdorj) has just arrived from England today we will probably hold a meeting tomorrow,” A. Baatarkhuyag, Head of the DP Public Relation’s department, told MonInfo Monday.

“Members of the Democratic Party in Parliament requested that our executive board make a political solution concerning our appeal for the resignation of the current Government,” said Baatarkhuyag.

DP officials said the document cites current economic tendencies and trends, such as poverty, and continuing issues of political corruption as reasons for the resignation.

“It is not clear whether or not the DP is submitting the letter to Parliament. Once it is submitted then the MPRP will hold a meeting and express its position,” said D. Idevkhten, MP and former Secretary of MPRP.

During the Stalinist purges of the 1930's almost every monastery in Mongolia was destroyed. In 1979 an atlas was published in Ulaanbaatar by Mr. Rinchen with an overview of more than 900 religious sites that used to exist in Mongolia. However a lot the information listed seems to be not accurate. A research has been initiated to get a better idea of all the buddhist buildings that once stood in Mongolia.
