Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Five officers of the Mongolian Armed Forces
will leave for Ethiopia and Eritrea on Tuesday to perform unarmed
duties as UN military observers. The officers will go to the
countries for the first time on the basis of the invitation from the UN
Peacekeeping Operation Department. There are 218 military observers
from 38 different countries in Ethiopia and Eritrea. In 2000, the UN
Security Council appealed to solve the armed conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea, which originated in
1998, by peaceful means. The UN
peacekeeping mission launched its activities in the countries in September 2000.
