Ulaanbaatar, Montsame, reports: Uvs Aimag named hippophae, or sea buckthorn, as its "brand". Over
70 per cent of Mongolia's hippophae is grown in this province. Taking
into account recent decreases in hippophae growth, the Aimag's
Khural of Civil Representatives has set up a council to implement a
"Hippophae" program. In 2006, 73 tons of hippophae were harvested in the Aimag, and saplings were planted on an area of over 150 hectares. Measures were also carried out to protect wild hippophae along the Torkhilog,
Khovd, Tes, Borshoo, and Bokhmoron rivers. Under orders from the Republic
of Korea, and Japan, hippophae juice and wild hippophae were supplied to
these countries respectively. In the future, other aimags and soums
will be provided with hippophae saplings under the program, according
to initiator of the program, J. Doojav.
