"Reliable Domestic Flights Needed to Develop Tourism Industry" Says EzNis PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 September 2006
EzNis Airways, a new domestic airline company which announced their establishment of business in July, will soon start flying to major rural cities, according to an official of the company. While the company is still waiting for complete licensing from the Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Road, Transportation and Tourism, company officials remain optimistic.

"We are still in the process of planning destinations and ensuring efficient and reliable management of the air service. Some foreign experts came to Ulaanbaatar, and we are doing test flights these days,” said B. Bilegsaikhan, Manager of Sales & Marketing Division of EzNis Airways.

In early July, the company bought two commercial commuter jets, SAAB 340Bs, from American Eagle Airlines. On July 5, the General Electric Aviation, an American aircraft engine support company, signed a technical support contract with EzNis Airways to provide full engine maintenance service.

“Eznis Airways operation safety levels are up, as maintenance service means not only repair after damages but prevention of damages and control on engine operations,” said Bilegsaikhan.

The company plans to operate charter flights throughout Mongolia as well.

Mongolia, a landlocked country that has no marine gateway, depends fully on air, rail and roads; air transport is the main corridor that links Mongolia away from its giant neighbors of China and Russia. The country’s tourism industry lacks of adequate and reliable air transport services, both domestic and international, as the main impediments to the growth of their businesses, say industry workers.

“The government might want to consider a (partial) open skies policy towards charter flights for tourists and air freight services. Such a policy would directly alleviate the critical barriers faced by the tourism industry; the inadequacy and unreliability of scheduled air services,” according to an investment climate assessment and trade integration study by the World Bank.

"The signed technical support contract proves attention paid by Eznis Airways to smooth and reliable operation of its aircrafts. The company management states that furthermore Eznis Airways will cooperate with world’s best companies related to civil aviation." said the spokesperson.

EzNis was founded by NewCom, a group of companies that specialized in information technology and telecommunication business in Mongolia. It owns 40 percent of MobiCom Corporation, the first cellular telephone service provider company.
