Poem: Shame, Shame PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 19 January 2006
Alas, the elders who have lived without charity, shame

Alas, the stylish youth who have not cared for the soul, shame

Alas, the wise who have not united books with their minds, shame

Alas, the nobles who are inconsistent with their subjects, shame

Alas, the girls who do not worship their fathers but worship men, shame

Alas, the officials who abuse the state, shame

Alas, the pupils who study all things other than their lessons, shame

Alas, the monks who call meditation a hindrance, shame

Alas, the lamas who sit in the monastery by day but wander, visiting families by night, shame

Alas, the disciples who portray devotion but secretly cheat, shame

Alas, the doctors who think not of helping but money, shame

Alas, the wary who do not see their own faults but find fault in others, shame

Alas, the girls whose eyes look at one's face but whose spirit turns in the back, shame

Alas, the scholars who teach others by day but are themselves dissipated at night, shame

Alas, the men who themselves return from visiting others show jealously to their wives, shame

Alas, the wives who befriend others and do not listen to men, shame

Alas, if any of these faults are found in me, shame on me alone amongst all others

Mongolia Websites

The goal of the Mongolian River Resources website is to provide information on a wide spectrum of topics related to natural resource use and the environment in Mongolia. This includes issues within Mongolia, and relevant international information and experiences. The need for information pertinent to the environment, ecology, and resource use, available to a broad audience with diverse interests and needs, was identified during the initial year of The Asia Foundation’s Securing Our Future program.
