The Camel Polo-Winter Festival-2007

Ulaanbaatar - the coldest capital in the world - had a premier this week as an event of Camel Polo was organized for the first time in the city boundaries. This event is usually organized in the Gobi, and people from Ulaanbaatar can only watch it from tv or read  from newspapers, but this time they had chance to see it live in the Yarmag valley near Ulaanbaatar city. 13  teams participated in the Camel Polo, from Ovorhangai, Bayanhongor  Dundgobi, Dornogobi provinces and a team from Inner Mongolia.

Also there was a camel race with the fastest camel was from Mandal –Ovoo sum in Omnogobi province.

The numbers of camels used to be in the millions in Mongolia before but now it is steadily decreasing (about 200 thousand) and Mongolia has done research about how to protect and promote camel product. The Camel Polo is quiet new sport in Mongolia and effort is made to develop this sport and promote the Mongolian Camel to many other foreign countries said The president of  Mongolian Camel Polo Association Mr. Oyunbaatar.
