The Catholic Church recently celebrated its fifteenth year since returning to establish a presence in Mongolia in 1992. 

Though the church’s numbers are low, with 415 Catholics in Mongolia, the church took special note at the steady increase in church-related activities. 

Catholic churches in Mongolia now include Sts Peter and Paul, St Mary's, Good Shepherd and Mary Help of Christians. This last church was established in 2007 in Darhan, Mongolia's second-largest city with 80,000 inhabitants, 200 kilometers north of Ulaanbaatur. 

Additionally, church officials note that 64 missioners from 18 countries are serving in Mongolia. 

Catholic church staff now run ministries to some 500 children in the parishes and mission stations where children attend Mass and Sunday-school classes. 

Mongolian children coming from families which cannot afford regular schools attend the St Paul schools in Ulaanbaatar and Zuun Mod.  

Looking to the future, Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar said, “We are establishing a local Church, but most of the pastoral agents of the apostolic prefecture are foreigners.” For this reason, “it is high time to encourage vocation, animation and recruitment in the parishes among the baptized youth.”

Hi lostinmongolia, it is very easy to see selfish people in any society and it sometimes takes effort to see the good. Walk in any city on this planet and you will see selfish and unselfish acts. Did you not see the article on this site about one of your buddhist teachers, the venerable G. Purevbat? Whilst I am not a big fan of “corporate religion”, if the Catholic Church improves the life of just a single child in UB then that is good, but it is such an easy task for a very wealthy organisation. There are many mongolians in your city trying to make a difference to the lives of many children with virtually no resources at all and they are the real heros. I would suggest that you ignore the fools chasing personal wealth at all cost, it is so easy to see them and they are a distraction – look beyond them for your friends and like-minded people.

Unfortunately us Mongolians will never help those who need help. We are too tricky and mostly we are selfish. Our selfishness is the root to all our problems.
All the traffic problems are because of selfishness all the corruption is because of selfishness. When we walk on the side walk we don't care about the other people walking... our doctors take bribes becuase they are selfish. every one takes bribes because of our selfishness..smilies/smiley.gif we love to give and take bribes... and we don't feel bad inside when we are so wicked.
I think we are just like that one line that mikiniki wrote... They chose a lie That's what we do best... we lie every day to everyone. we are so good to tell the lie... because we are selfish. Chimid4 loves to say we are such a great people in the world... but he is certainly blind.

Maybe speding more time looking at why Mongolia doesnt tend to these social issues and speaking out to the people and the government for better action might be better for you. Great observation chimid4, now go and figure out a better plan of action to fix the problem.

Mongolia needs to care for impoverished citizens so people do not have to seek help from foreign religious organizations like this Vatican outposts! Good thing is that they do not have too much success. Mongols are to inteligent for their schemes!!!
