A Mongolian and Tibetan cultural fair opened at the Chiayi Municipal
Museum yesterday. A collection of 1,600 cultural artifacts from
Mongolia and Tibet are on display, including costumes, musical
instruments and Tibetan Buddhist images. The fair features performances
of Mongolian and Tibetan folk songs and dances, as well as seminars on
Mongolian and Tibetan cultures.
Yao Chia-po (饒嘉博), director of the
Chiayi Cultural Affairs Bureau, said that the fair will run through
Aug. 20. Yao said a yurt, or portable tent used by nomadic Central
Asian peoples, has been set up in the museum's atrium to allow visitors
to take pictures. The Cabinet-level Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs
Commission helped organize the fair, Yao said.
