In response to the flooding
in the Eg-Ur Valley which killed 3,000 head of livestock in 2006, an
American environmental organization has donated 500 head to help local
families.
Representatives of The Tributary
Fund brought 500 yaks, sheep and goats to replace those lost in the
communities of Tsagaan Uur and Zurlich.
The provincial governor has
asked the recipients of the animals to give a female animal, following
breeding, to a neighbor in need. The governor predicted this would double
the herd by 2011.
The Tributary Fund, based in
Montana, USA, works to find environmentally friendly approaches to assist
communities worldwide.
