Tsahim Urtuu

The Tsahim Urtuu Holboo NGO is pleased to announce the names of three outstanding high school graduates of Hazara heritage who have been selected to receive full undergraduate scholarships to pursue studies at the prestigious National University of Mongolia on this blessed day of May 31, 2009 - the 10th year anniversary of global Mongolian Tsahim Urtuu Network (E-Station Network).

The initial account was to offer two scholarship awards that were available for the 2009-2013 academic years; however, with careful consideration of each applicant, the members of the Committee have decided to make an exception this year and award an additional third candidate with the scholarship.

The Tsahim Urtuu Scholarship winners are:

Meqdad Salehi
Zahra Hussain Bakhsh
Ghulam Abbas

More information on the students at TsahimUrtuu.mn

Scholar awardees are selected from 6 finalist candidates and are judged to have the strongest record of accomplishments in school and community service and greatest potential for academic success in college. The objectives of the Tsahim Urtuu Scholarships are outlined as follows:

• To enable intellectually distinguished young Hazara high school graduate students, their country's future leaders, to study in Mongolia.
• To help scholars gain an understanding and appreciation of contemporary Mongolia.
• To motivate scholars to act as ambassadors from the Hazara community to Mongolia and vice versa throughout their lives thus strengthening the relationship between the Hazara and Mongolian peoples.
• To promote the personal and academic fulfilment of each scholar.

The scholarships were awarded through a competitive application process. The award includes full-tuition of five years of academic study, living cost, textbook cost, medical insurance, visa fee, academic fees, transportation cost from the recipient's country to Mongolia and lodging at the university campus where the recipient will study.

The scholarship awards, totalling approximately $52 000 dollars, are being financed by donations mostly from Tsahim Urtuu Network members and Mongolian nationals abroad, and grants from Mongolian corporate organizations and professional associations.

As future leaders, with a lasting understanding of Mongolian culture, history and society, Tsahim Urtuu scholars will contribute to the establishment of relationship between the Mongolian and Hazara peoples, their governments and their institutions.

On behalf of Mongolian people, and the members of the Tsahim Urtuu Network and Tsahim Urtuu Holboo, Congratulations to Meqdad Salehi, Zahra Hussain Bakhsh, and Ghulam Abbas, the Tsahim Urtuu Scholarship winners!

Dear friends,

I'd like to add up some more information regarding this topic.
I'm from Mongolia. As far as I understood, this scholarship above is not by the Government of Mongolia; it is by some Mongolian individuals/companies - initiated and coordinated by this none-governmental organisation ("TsahimUrtuu"). That's why the scope and number of schoalrships are small. I think.

However, the Mongolian government has its own bilateral agreements with other governments whereby foreign students do some study in Mongolia (but in specific fields?) and vica versa. (Those coming through these agreements get some help from the Government of Mongolia, I think). Unfortunately, Mongolia itself has been undergoing traumatic socio-economic hardships since the fall of communism; so it is not wealthy enough to give many scholarships. I hope it will give more in the future.

This is really incredible hearing for the first time that there is a nation feeling sympathy with HAZARAS.
Hazaras have passed all their lives during the conflicts and threatens with extinction of different rulers helplessly and without the support of any beings. I am really glad that Mongolia feels brotherhood with Hazaras. We had the ability, but we didn't have the chance to share. Now, we have the chance so we show the world that we are hard-working, talented and eligible in every field of life. Now, we fly around the universe and participate in different forms. I thank the Mongolian Government for their sympathy. Meqdad Salehi, Zahra Hussain Bakhsh, and Ghulam Abbas, Wish you success!

As former Editor of EAST EUROPE Magazine during the
Cold War against atheistic Communism, it is indeed
enlightening that the great ancient Mongol nation,
with its moderate spiritual dimension Buddhist faith revival, is
now a vibrant member of the Free World and is
extending help in higher education and other assistance to
its ancient brotherly Hazara people, predominantly uniquely
moderate Shiite Muslims in Hazarajat, who also deserve
a place in the sun among the world comity of natural
nations. This American patriot deeply appreciates all forms of
cooperation in diverse sectors
between Mongolia and Hazarajat!

Thanks so much for your supporting the Hazara People in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the field of higher education.
And let me to express my opinion about my brother or sister Mongolian as he/she had been written “that first of all Mongolian should support their Citizen then going on the acting as rich country ".
i agree with you kind but myself as a hazara and Naimani tribe in Afghanistan believe Mongolian as our second country and proud to Mongolian in all situation and sharing our expression in all situation .
But before we couldn’t do and now with this great chance for hazara people for having an ambassadors from the Hazara community in Mongolia in future we can gain it.
So thanks again from all the people making this program and supported and hope to be continue in future.

as much as I feel proud of my country for helping other nations' needy succeed in life, I would also like to stress one very important point. Mongolians, too, are needy! There are many actual natives that need assistance. Isn't it time to stop acting like a rich, humanitarian, developed, problems-free nation? how about 1st structure your own countrymen, then help others?

Daniel, please don't take this the offensive way.
