Snow storm results in 23 missing in Central Mongolia

 Snow storm results in 23 missingFierce winter weather had officials looking for 23 Mongolians reported missing.

Heavy snowstorms with exceptionally harsh winds were reported in the country’s center and Gobi regions on March 11-12. The storms reportedly covered most of the territories of the central provinces of Ovorkhangai, Tov, Bulgan, Khentii, Sukhbaatar and all Gobi regions.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also reported on Thursday that 23 people have been reported missing during the storms. Of this group, 11 have since been found safe by NEMA's search teams and local authorities. A continuing search for the remaining 12 people is ongoing. Officials said many of those reported missing are herders watching over their grazing cattle

Officials said crews are working to clear blocked roads and mountain passes. It is also reported that dust and snowstorms are still continuing in Khentii, Sukhbaatar and Dornod provinces.
