Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment, Food and Agriculture led by the Committee Chairman Mr. A.Bakei have became au fait with the policy, activities and structure of the Ministry of Environment. The newly appointed Minister of Environment Mr. I.Erdenebaatar and the representatives of authorities, departments and units under the Ministry introduced to them the Ministry s activities. The Ministry of Environment consists of four authorities and three departments, and annually takes about 5.5 billion togrogs financing from the state budget. Most of the financing is spent on running expenses and the remaining is spent on investment, afforestation and other measures. The Nature Conservancy Fund, which functions under the Ministry, has calculated to earn 400 million togrogs income this year. The Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment Monitoring Agency and Water Resources Agency are working under the Ministry as well. According to the report by the administration of reserves, 13.7 percent or 21,523 hectares of land of the total territory of Mongolia is taken into special protection. A total of 18 administrations for the special reserves work nationwide. They spend over 350 million togrogs a year and annually earn about 100 million togrogs. More than 30 laws are observed in the environmental sector; in addition, Mongolia is a part of 11 international conventions on nature protection. Currently, more than ten big projects are carried out in the environmental sphere with the financial support from international organizations
