Mongolia observed a day of mourning on Saturday for 46 people killed in a spring storm this past week.

Caught in snow storms and exposed to dangerous temperatures, most of the victims were reportedly animal herders. Some 100 people remain unaccounted for.

Mongolia sent teams totaling 300 rescuers, using 70 vehicles, who are still involved in the rescue operation in the east of the country. However, more storms and poor conditions have slowed the search for storm victims.

The severe winds were also blamed for damaging buildings, power installations and communications towers.
