The Geology, Biodiversity and Ecology of Lake Hövsgöl (Mongolia) (526
p., 130 figs, 60 tables, ISBN 90-5782-162-1) has been published as a
volume in the series Biology of Inland Waters by Backhuys Publishing,
Leiden, the Netherlands. This is the first comprehensive book on Lake
Hovsgol and its watershed to be published in English for international
scientific audience. It has 28 chapters by American, Japanese, Russian
and Mongolian researchers and took a few years in the working.
Lake Hövsgöl is one of the largest and ancient lakes in Asia,
certainly the most beautiful. It is arguably the most studied system
in Mongolia, yet not many results of these studies had been made
available to the rest of the world. There are many questions of
fundamental and practical importance that beg answers for Lake Hövsgöl
and interest in the lake and its watershed has been increasing over
the years. We hope that this book will provide a baseline for many
scholars who are starting their work in the area.
