Doctor Sakamoto, researcher from
Japan’s Minamata Disease Study National Center has taken urine and
hair samples from 250 people in Khongor Soum, Darkhan-Uul province of
Mongolia last month. From those, test results of 50 people were
received two weeks ago and the rest were received last week. The
tests’ aim was to see if people of Khongor Soum have been affected
by Mercury exposure. The results show that there is no significant
Mercury poisoning occurred. “The final integrated results will be
released to public after test results on blood samples sent to London
and soil samples taken by Agriculture Programme by UNDP will come
out” said an employee of WHO, Mongolia Country Office.
“Minamata is a first-class Disease
Study Center specialized in tests of this kind and a well known
organization equipped with latest technology. Tests conducted here
should give results with little to doubt about’ was noted by a
professional. Cost per urine and hair sample test is between 100-300
USD. The above tests have been endorsed by the Japanese government.
